Carbon Reduction Plan

THE JOURNEY TO NET ZERO

Venesky-Brown understand the importance of the climate change agenda and are committed to playing our role in decarbonising the economy for a greener, more sustainable future.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. We have baselined our Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) for the calendar year of 2022. We will report on our results and key metrics on an annual basis in February every year.

Baseline Year 2022:

Carbon Reduction 2022

Year 2023:

Carbon Reduction 2023

Emission Reduction Targets

2030 – Reduce our Carbon Emissions on our own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 60%
2045 – Achieve Net Zero across all operations (Scope 1, 2 and 3)

Our pathway: Scope 1 and 2 Carbon Emissions – Projected reduction trajectory compared to actual outcome

Analysis

analysis
2023 saw a total Emissions increase of 9%. The business has continued to grow since 2022, the rate of growth is higher than the increase in emissions.

This demonstrates the company’s growth in 2022 is now translating into increased turnover with a more efficient output of emissions.
Against the backdrop of an ever-increasing client presence in England we also face more challenges than ever to reduce our carbon footprint but it is a challenge we take seriously and will continue to analyse and work with our supply chain to reduce our impact.

Our key commitments and carbon reduction initiatives

The board of directors intend to set the following environmental objectives for the year of 2024. They will be finalised at the end of February.

  • Reduce air travel.
  • Book low carbon hotels when travelling for business purposes.
  • Improve HSE opportunity management.

In the future we plan to implement further measures which will continue to drive down emissions. Below are initiatives we intend to implement over the coming years:

  • Build awareness amongst our workforce, clients and key stakeholders of the impact their decisions have on our journey to net zero.
  • Provide carbon experts within our workforce to our clients, employees that can add significant value and insight to support our client and specific sites journey to net zero.
  • Actively quantify carbon emissions from commuting and working from home via a rolling employee survey and use this as an opportunity to decrease scope 3 emissions via employee engagement.
  • Internal team challenges with an environmental focus.
  • Work with suppliers/clients to encourage them to set their own carbon reductions targets.
  • Encouragement of internal staff to transition to electric vehicles through promotion of available grants / programmes.

Offsetting

Venesky Brown will prioritise actual reductions and energy efficiency measures and will only choose to use offsetting measures once we have exhausted all opportunities to directly reduce our carbon footprint.
